Easter 2010

We headed to Utah this year for Easter. We thought that grandma could use something to lift her spirits, and thought the girls would be perfect for the job. We did the usual shopping and such on Saturday afternoon and ended the night with a little egg coloring. Everyone got in on the fun and a good time was had by all. The girls were little worried that the bunny might not find them at grandmas, but he did not disappoint. Not only did the bunny bring a basket for the girls, everyone else was remembered. They wore their new Easter dresses (skirts) the week before because of General Conference and not having church on Easter. I think they are pretty darn cute!

Our First Snowman

I am a bad mom. My girls are 8 and 6 years old and I have never made a snowman with them. Turn me in for the worst mom in the world award! It's no secret that I am not a fan of the snow and cold that we have for 6 months out of the year here in Wyoming. I don't own a pair of snow boots or snow pants. No need to have them when I will never use them. I broke down one day in March and ventured out show my girls how to build a snowman. It had snowed quite a bit that day and the snow looked like it was going to be perfect snowman snow. Too bad it wasn't. The temperature had risen to near 50 degrees (that's the reason I agreed to join in on the fun) and the snow was too wet to roll into a ball. We had to pack handfuls to make the little fellow. He may be little, but we like him.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

I started the tradition last year of celebrating St. Patrick's Day. I started the day off with green pancakes and green milk for breakfast. The girls wanted to have the same menu for dinner as last year. So we dined on green chicken and pasta, broccoli, green rolls and limeade. For dessert, we had frozen limeade pie. I guess I need to start looking now for something new to make next year.

Bottle-nosed Dolphin

Janae had to do a project at school on an endangered animal. She chose the bottle-nosed dolphin. Her assignment was to make a diorama showing the animals habitat, including what it eats. I bought the stuff to make it, but left it up to her and her dad to make it. She is lucky enough to have an uncle who scuba dives and has an underwater camera. Uncle Mike sent us pictures he had taken and we had them enlarged to use as the background. It doesn't get much more realistic than that. I think they did a great job, don't you? Her teacher apparently thought so too because she got an A on the assignment. Janae had to write a research paper on her animal and then present it to her class. She knew her material so well that she was able to tell the class the information on the dolphins instead of having to read it. Great job Coley!

Toothless Addyson

While we were in Utah for the baby shower, Addyson ate a piece of bread that made one of her teeth loose. It hadn't been loose before that, so it must of been some hard bread she bit into! That was Saturday. Fast forward to Monday, February 15th. On the way home from a doctor's appointment, she and I stopped at the store to buy bread for dinner. I jokingly told her to be careful eating dinner, because she might end up swallowing her tooth like her sister had done just a few weeks before. When we got home, she ran to the bathroom. I figured she had business to take care of. She came out minute later, holding a tissue with her tooth in it. She had pulled the tooth out so that she wouldn't swallow it! She now has 2 other teeth that are loose. The tooth fairy brought her a $2 bill, just like her sister gets.

Corbin

Dan and Tami, Scott's brother and sister in law were due with their first baby in March. The girls and I offered to do a baby shower for them in February. (Just in case you were ever considering it, putting on a long distance shower is harder than you think.) So I made invites, planned games and a menu, made the diaper cake as a center piece and drug everything to make a cake to Utah. We had about a dozen people show up for a shower that I had planned for 30. Oh well, there was plenty of everything for those of us there. Tami got some great gifts. The girls and I chose a froggy theme, and I think both cakes turned out cute.

Corbin was born a few weeks early on March 20. I happened to be in Utah, taking Meredith to the airport, so I got to see him the day he was born. When we went down for Easter, the girls got to meet their newest cousin . Can you tell how excited they were from the looks on their faces?

Addyson Turns 6

I can't believe that my baby is 6 years old! Time has gone by so fast. She had her party on the Saturday before her birthday. I think we had 10 kids come to make lots of noise and a big mess. Isn't that what birthday parties are all about though? She chose, several months before her birthday, to do a pajama party, meaning have everyone wear jammies. I made her a bed cake, complete with pillows and a bear.
On her birthday, which was also the 100th day of school and her class Valentine party, she took goldfish crackers and juice boxes to share for morning snack. She got a Grouchy Ladybug shirt from her daddy, a scripture bag, leapster games and carrying bag from us. From Aunt Meredith she got an UP game for her leapster and a hard case. A few days later when we went to Utah, she got an Easy Bake Oven from grandma and grandpa.

Her day ended with her soccer teams last game and a trip to Pizza Hut with the bunch. Her sweet coach even brought along a cake for her. I think it is safe to say she had a great day.

My Birthday

My birthday has come and gone again this year. While it is just another day, I still want to be treated like a queen, for just one day out of the year. I have a great friend, Deirdra, who brought me a cake on my birthday. She knew my girls were waiting until Saturday to make me dinner and a cake, so she made one and brought it on over. Lemon is my new favorite flavor!

Another great friend, Shannon, was sweet enough to bring me flowers. They were beautiful! It was an especially nice surprise since I never get flowers from anyone else. (hint, hint, Scott)

My girls made me my favorite homemade chocolate cake. Didn't they do an awesome job decorating it?

It was a great birthday that lasted for several days. On Saturday, the girls (with dad's help) made me mini burgers and fries for dinner. Thanks everyone!

I Won! I Won! I Won!

I had a friend call last November to ask for some homemade cards for a project she was working on for the nonprofit organization where she works. I scanned several cards and emailed them to her. Then I never thought of it again. After Christmas, her sister who lives in town, informed me that she had something for me from Carolyn. I had no idea what she could possibly have for me. To my surprise, she walked up with a big box. Upon opening it, I found a letter stating that I had won 2nd place in the card contest. Apparently, the organization was selling Christmas cards that you had to pre-order, and several of my cards together, were the best sellers. In the box was a basket of scrapbooking supplies, $175 worth. Not bad for not realizing I was entering a contest.
