Camping at Sandstone Cabin

We went camping with our friends, the Patterson's again this summer. This time we headed to Sandstone Cabin, near Baggs. It was a great drive, all on paved road. We went on a drive one day to Aspen Alley, a few miles from camp. Aspen Alley is a section of forest that is all aspen trees, lining the road. It has some of the biggest aspen trees I've ever seen and is pretty breathtaking. We were camping in our tent and chose a spot under some aspens to set it up. Look at the size of the trees next to our tent!

On another drive, we head to the Continental Divide. Who knew that there would be snow still at the endof June?!? All the kids had a great time playing in the snow and throwing snowballs at each other and their parents.

Father's Day

For Father's Day this year, the girls worked hard at making presents for dad. Addyson kept hers for a few weeks after bringing it home, although she asked daily if she could give it to him.

We ended the day with the girls helping make dinner and dessert.

Floral Design

One of the classes that Janae chose for the summer was floral design. I wasn't sure what she would think about it, but she loved it! Each day she brought home an arraignment that would have sold for $40 or more in a floral shop. Her teacher was a shop owner, so it worked out well for the kids in the class. Janae must have more of a green thumb than I do, because several of the plants are still living.

Princess Camp

Addyson chose to attend princess camp again this year. The fairy godmothers, aka the teachers, are fantastic and make the class so much fun. She painted a shirt, make a picture frame to put the picture of her and a real live princess in (a beauty pageant winner), watched princess movies, ate princess snacks and many other princess activities. Unfortunately, they did not have her favorite princess, Jasmin, for her to stand next to. They remembered her from last year and even asked about Janae.

Last Day of School

The last day of school, June 5th, turned out to be a cold, rainy day. I volunteered to help in the morning and afternoon at the field day. The morning was very overcast and dark, but not rainy. I was coaxed into going down the slide with Janae, but had to leave my station to do so. She thought that I was a "cool mom" after it. Mission accomplished! I only wish that she would always be so easy to please. Addyson's turn came after lunch. It was very cold and windy, and it did eventually rain on the poor little kids. We had to move the stations inside after getting soaked off and on for a while. Two hundred fifty kids in a very small gym=big headache, but the kids had a blast.

Petrogylphs and Sand Dunes

We made the drive to the Boar's Tusk area on Memorial Day. I have lived here most of my life, but had never been out there. The trip began with a stop to the petrogylphs. The girls were pretty impressed with the carvings in the rock made by Indians. They liked hiding in the little rock caves and seeing the black ceiling where fire burn it, keeping someone in hiding warm. We never actually got close to Boar's tusk, we weren't sure which of the many dirt roads took us there. We drove to the sand dunes that we hear so much about but had never seen. The area is really for 4-wheelers, but the girls loved rolling down the hills and digging in the sand. Hopefully the next time we go there, the wind won't be blowing 50 miles an hour, sand doesn't feel too good in the eyes.
