Movin' on up .............

to 2nd grade :)

Today was Janae's last day of 1st grade. We are now the proud parents of a 2nd grader! Are we getting old or what? Addyson and I went this morning for the awards assembly where Janae received an "Outstanding Attendance" award. She only missed 1/2 day this whole year, she had a dentist appointment. We planned on staying only until after lunch, but Addyson was feeling very grown up and wanted to stay. Janae's teacher didn't mind, so we stayed. She actually asked if I had errands to do because she wanted Addyson to stay, with or without me.

The kids were filled with excitement all day because they didn't have to do any school work. Originally the whole school was going to walk to a nearby park to play and eat lunch, but it was a gray, rainy day, so they all stayed at school. The 1st grade teachers planned some fun activities for the kids. After an extra long morning recess, they had snack time. I made some cookies for Janae's class and the class decided to share with the other 1st graders. I think the batch made about 200 cookies; at 15 per pan, it was a long night of baking. The classrooms were set up into different stations. The kids got to blow bubbles with a straw; play with bins of blocks, dominoes, stamps; have cotton ball races; and the favorite for all- shaving a balloon. After lunch, the kids got to wrap their teacher like a mummy-what a blast. They also got to eat licorice with a partner like in "Lady and the Tramp". To end the day, they watched "Babe".

Janae will miss Mrs. Shears next year. She has been a great teacher. But Janae is excited that her 2nd grade teacher was my 1st grade teacher.

Hopefully we will all survive the summer of being together 24/7!
